Revamping This Blog

I’ve decided that blogging about social media is, well, boring. I keep thinking about what I want to do with this blog. I have some great ideas, and over the next few days, I will be testing them. I have decided to blog about things I am really interested in, such as books, for example. So, unfortunately, this blog will be dormant for awhile until the “revamp”.  It’s time I get serious about blogging. Eventually, I plan on purchasing a template that is completely customizable so I can make this blog my own. I’m debating between Thesis and Headway. Both are great and the same price, so we shall see.

In the meantime, I will leave the blog “as is” until I decide what I am going to do with it. So, if you come across this for the first time, please come back in the couple of weeks or so, because it will be completely different.

Does Facebook Monitor Its Groups?

I love Facebook, but lately I am getting irritated. My last post, dated the day after Christmas, talked about a group on FB that pokes fun at the abduction of Maddie McCann, the British girl who went missing May 2007 in Portugal. I decided to check to see if FB had deleted that group as I suggested to them to do so. The group is still there, along with another one titled, “If 1,000,000 join, I”ll Release Maddie McCann from my basement”.  I reported them both today, but this is ridiculous.

Because there are so many pedophiles and crazy people on the Internet, social network sites like Facebook should monitor all the activity on there. Is this something that is impossible to do? I would think that it is not. But when users start reporting groups like these, FACEBOOK NEEDS TO LISTEN. As a user, I do not want to see this disgusting  content on there. Child abduction is not a joking matter, and those pigs who create these groups ought to be deleted from Facebook, too.

I’ve decided I will report these groups a hundred times a day if I have to. Maybe then FB will listen to what their users do not want on the site.

If you are a FB user, search groups for “Maddie McCann”. When you see a group like the two I mentioned above, please report them. We do not want this on Facebook! No one should ever make fun of a child abduction.

Should Facebook Monitor Groups Better?

When reading the news online today, I discovered that a group on Facebook had been deleted at the request of many FB users due to its content. This group, titled “If 2 million join I will give back Maddie McCann”, caused an outrage on the popular social networking site, with many users sickened and disgusted by the creator of the group, who claims he has the British tot. Maddie went missing from Praia da Luz, Portugal in May 2007 while on vacation with her family.

I went on Facebook to see if it truly had been deleted and if there were any other groups like this one still on there. And there was. This one.

This group is titled, “If 2 million join I will release Maddie McCann”. The creator, who I assume is the same user who started the one that was deleted, thinks its funny to make fun of a child’s abduction. It’s not funny, but it is sick and disgusting. In addition, users who joined the group are joining in on the sick humor, and personally, I feel they should be deleted as well.

Let’s hope that other users complain about and report this group, too.

Do you think Facebook should monitor the groups better on its site?

5 Addictive Games on Facebook

Facebook is known for its fun and quirky applications, anything from putting bumper stickers on your friends’ wall, to sending a round of drinks to friends to the highly entertaining games. To me, the game applications are the best.  When I browse through the games applications directory, I usually pick a game by its star rating of four or five stars, because those are  usually the best games most of the time and are rated by users.

Here are five  games you can’t stop playing on Facebook. You’ve been warned! ;)

  1. Bejeweled Blitz – this one is crazy-addictive! You have to click as many matching gems, three of the same in a row, as you can in one minute! Oh, this one will have you cursing and hollering, but you will have a hell of a time stepping away. If you like Bejeweled, this is even better.
  2. Fruit-Z – a slot machine game you will play over and over and over without leaving your computer. This is definitely one of my favorite games because I love slots. But when you get, say, five-of-a-kind, it’s total excitement! It’s kind of mixing a dice game with a slot machine. So, if you like both, you will LOVE Fruit-Z.
  3. Scramble - a classic scramble word game, but you have to create as many words as you can in three minutes! It will tell you if you have beaten one of your friend’s scores and then you can post it to your wall.
  4. Farkle - this was the first game I played, and I could not stop. It was insane. Farkle is a dice game similar to Yahtzee. You roll five dice and try to score. There are several ways of scoring points, and you always score something by rolling a one or a five.  A one is worth 100 points and a five is worth 50. But if you roll and score nothing, you “farkle”, and if you farkle three times in a row, you lose 500 points!
  5. MonkWerks – this one is my favorite. It’s kind of like Text Twist, only cooler. You have three ways to play: single, play live against a friend, or challenge a friend to play later. If you play as a single player, you can play with Word Play or Time Attack where you can play multiple pages. I usually play Time Attack. I have not challenged a friend or played live yet, because I am working on my skills. ;) Oh, you will just love the monk music that plays. ;)   If you love word games, this one is for you.
